ISSUE: A nonrecoverable I/O error occurred on file 112 (There is not enough space on the disk) (MS SQL database backup)

Article ID: 5295
Reviewed: 26/01/2018

Product Version:
AhsayOBM: Post-7.3.0.0
OS: Windows

Problem Description

When performing a MS SQL database backup (ODBC backup mode), the following warning message is received in the backup report:

No. Type Timestamp Log
* ... ... ...
* info ... [Start] Backing up "SQL_hostname\MSDB\db_name" ... to "temp_path"
* warn YYYY/MM/DD hh:mm:ss [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server] A nonrecoverable I/O error
occurred on file "temp_path\backupset_id\...\db_name\db_name.bak.YYYY-
MM-DD-hh-mm-ss.ADD:"112 (There is not enough space on the disk.).
* ... ... ...

Cause

The message suggests that there is insufficient free space in the temporary directory for storing backup files.

Resolution

To resolve the issue, ensure that there is sufficient free space available in the temporary directory for storing backup files. Alternatively, configure the temporary directory to another volume (accessible by the MS SQL service) with sufficient disk space.
